Meditation is the practice of focusing your mind, typically in silence.
It’s often done either in religious practices or as a way to relax and calm your mind.
Meditation is getting more popular day by day because more people are discovering its benefits.
I now have a daily meditation practice that has helped me feel better, slow down, and enjoy my life more.
But it’s not just me that’s loving meditating! There are so many more. The Cleveland Clinic (shout out to Cleveland, where I’m from!) wrote this article recently about How Mindfulness Training Can Boost Your Immune System.
Why You Should Meditate Daily
There are mental and physical benefits to a mindfulness meditation practice.
Meditating consistently and frequently increases the benefits you can get from it, which are are nothing short of life changing.
Here’s a look at the seven most important benefits of meditation…

Benefit 1: Increases your awareness of yourself and surroundings.
Meditation will make you more aware of yourself and your surroundings.
Instead of worrying about everyone else and the world, you’ll become aware of your own thoughts, feelings, and actions.
You’ll see how your surroundings (whether it’s your house or office) are a reflection of your self image.
This awareness is the key to understanding your life more deeply and ultimately living it more fully.
You’ll step into your highest self from this awareness and transform your life exactly how you want to. Living life on your terms.

Benefit 2: Increases relaxation.
When you meditate, you’ll be able to slow down, enjoy the present moment, and relax into your life.
As someone who was previously always rushing, I can say this is one of my favorites. I actually sit in 10 minutes of silence every day as a form of focused meditation and it helps me feel relaxed so much more easily.
Benefit 3: Increases your immunity.
Your immune system will thank you if you meditate consistently.
The mind body connection is incredibly powerful, and quieting the mind through meditating allows your body to catch up.
Meditation can lead to boosting your immune system, decreasing stress hormones, reducing inflammation, decreasing anxiety, and decreasing (or at least regulating) blood pressure, and helping manage chronic pain.
Benefit 4: Decreases anxiety.
Meditation has been shown to decrease anxiety.
Some anxiety is due to a chemical imbalance, but the other type of anxiety is not. The type of anxiety that we feel as an emotion is caused by your thinking. And guess what meditation helps you do? Clear that chatty little mind of yours!
With a clear mind, you’ll find that you’re less likely to have thoughts that produce anxiety and more likely to feel grounded and safe.
This is one of my favorite meditation benefits!

Benefit 5: Helps you focus.
Meditation helps you focus. When you participate in focus meditation, you are present in the moment, not letting your brain be consumed with other mental chatter. Your brain has thousands of thoughts every day, so having a designated quiet time to “clean out” your brain (think of it like decluttering) will help you see more clearly what your focus needs to be.
If you have 2,000 thoughts about random things, and you meditate, you can put back the 100 thoughts you want to keep.
When you want to focus, meditation is one of the best tools to use. It’s an invitation to pause and hold space for yourself.

Benefit 6: Enhances connections with other people.
When you meditate, you get the “drama” out of your head. You get clarity.
This surprisingly isn’t just about you. It’s about how you show up in the world.
You end up showing up better and connecting more. Instead of focusing on the mental chatter going on in your mind, you’re able to give to your relationships, which means you will connect with people in your life in a deeper way.

Benefit 7: Reduces negative stress
When you meditate, you relieve stress from your body.
The kind of stress that gets stuck and is negative (that you don’t want hanging around) can be released through meditating.
If you feel like your “fight or flight” stress brain is constantly triggered or on, then meditating is an excellent daily practice to start that will help you decrease that response and start to feel more grounded, present, and safe in your own body.
