How to start an online business

Do you want a more fulfilling career, to work from home, and make more money?

This is what most people come to me with, and they want to know if (and how) they can start an online business to accomplish those things. Five years ago, I knew nothing about online business and had $206k in student loan debt from law school.

Now I have a multi six figure online business as a life and business coach. I did it on top of a lot of failures, and I now know what works and what doesn’t.

In this episode, I share exactly what you need to know to start an online business (and the three common mistakes I see that you should avoid).

Hello, Lovely. How are you today? I hope you are doing well and enjoying fall. This fall has been such a treat for me. I really did not want to leave summer. It was just such a fun summer in Chicago and I have to say that fall has been nothing short of amazing. It really has kind of blown my mind how much I’m enjoying it, which is super, super fun. So I hope you are having a really fun fall regardless of whatever season you are in. Fun is an emotion that is always caused by your thinking and you can just decide to feel like you’re having a lot of fun. That’s what I do in my work and actually we’re going to talk about that later, but I want to start off with today’s episode talking about how to start an online business.

So in my business right now, I am in the thick of creating Online Business For Her. I cannot wait to deliver it to you. It’s going to be freaking amazing and funny, I just had someone actually purchase it because they like searched something randomly on my website and the sales page came up in their search and I had the order form in there already and they purchased it. And this is such a good lesson in business that the actual product is not whatever wins, right? The product doesn’t win the best product doesn’t win the best marketing wins because you quite literally can’t know what the product is until you’re in it until you’ve already purchased it. So it’s everything you do ahead of time that really matters. Right? So I know I’m creating an amazing product. It’s just not out yet. So this person, this wonderful, beautiful, lovely woman, paid $597 for a product that did not exist yet. So of course I emailed her right away, refunded her money.

But that’s how you know you have really good marketing and positioning and a niche. Someone literally finds your sales page and buys it without it being for sale yet. So good. So if you are wondering if you should start an online business or how to do it or if it’s even possible for you, I want you to listen to this episode and I think that you’ll get some takeaways from it. Even if you actually already have an online business or you have a blog. 

Also, even if you’re not really interested, still listen to this because I think that people are very, very confused about what an online business is. And I know this because I’m asked about it all the time, right? So most people are asking me, should I start an online business? What options do I have? What do I do? You know? And it’s kind of coming from this place of I want to do something else with my life. I want more fulfillment in my work. I also want more flexibility in how I work. I want more time not working, right? I want to work less and I want to make more money. I love the idea of, you know, kind of this unlimited income potential, right? And it’s kind of intertwined with I’m kind of passionate about something or something else. And I just think it would be really cool to turn that into an online business, but I don’t really know anything about it. I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to start. What my options are, that’s kind of in a, jist what I hear most from people. They’re very confused about it and I want to know that I totally get it. I get feeling uncertain. I get feeling unfulfilled in your job. I get feeling interested in this as like a hobby or a side hustle and being really curious about it.

I can tell you that from where I started as an attorney and kind of this scarcity mindset around money and it starting from that place, right? I have transformed my entire life. I didn’t work on my scarcity. Then I ended up starting this online business and through that journey I went from scarcity to abundance with money and I’m so solid and money in business. I would go head to head with anyone. I’m I’m that confident in it, which has been super fun because I did that all on my own. Of course with the help of, you know, taking my own online courses and getting coaching. But in terms of, you know, no one handed this to me, I’m not inheriting a business or something like that, like it’s in my business I created. So it’s built on so many failures that I want to just let you know that as much as I talk about how great it is and how things are awesome.

First of all, I still have failures now that are just different types of failures and there’s always the contrast. So there’s always the 50 50 of life. But I do know what it’s like to be where you are right now. And I was there not that long ago. If you think about five years ago, it just like blows my mind, right? I had just started this less than five years ago and I was working as an attorney and I was in $206,000 of student loan debt and I just started a blog about money because I figured that if I was struggling with money and didn’t know anything about money and managed to become a lawyer and not know anything about money, then certainly there were other women just like me in that same situation. I didn’t read blogs, I didn’t know anything about business. I really didn’t even know I was going to turn it into a business at the time. I just wanted to start a blog. It was like If you go to now it actually reroutes to so I still own it and always will and it just was a blog about intentional living and personal finance. Okay. My first year I made $8,000 okay. My second, I made $30,000 and I did this knowing nothing about it, I just failed forward. I just kept trying different things because I saw other people online doing it. And then I got this like really great idea that I could quit being a lawyer and go be a financial planner because I thought that I needed to be an expert, you know, in my space. And I do really think you do need to be an expert in what you’re teaching. But I think that that can evolve and I don’t really think you need a certification or letters behind your name to do it.

I say that and I have all the letters, right? J D CFP and Certified Life Coach, but you don’t need it. You certainly don’t need it. That’s what I love about business is I know so many people who are Harvard, Yale, you know Ivy league educated and then so many other people on the other side who graduated high school and didn’t graduate college and they are all, you know, seven figure business owners. So that’s like the beauty of this is you don’t need to have a degree or qualifications. You just need to find what works. And it just like levels the playing field and it’s so much fun. But for me at that time I didn’t really buy into that and so I wanted to be an expert so I went quit my job as a lawyer, became a financial planner, got my CFP, worked at like one of the best registered investment advisory firms. That’s like fee only. I think it was a great career. I have nothing but positive things to say about that time in my life. If you want to hear more about it, there’s like blog posts on my site about kind of transitioning and quitting my job that you’ll probably really enjoy if you’re in a full time job right now.

But during that time, you know, I built my income up. The third year was $45 K. And at this time I kind of had to evaluate where I was going. Right. You’re, you’re kind of on two ladders, the online business ladder and the financial planning letter, which one are you going to do? It wasn’t really working out so well to do both as I progressed in my career. So I decided in year four to quit my full time job in April and that year in my business I made $180 K and then I became a life coach. And this year the year is not over yet. I don’t know. I’m guessing I’ll make about $250 K to $270 maybe a little more, somewhere in there under the $300 K mark. And as you know, as I’ve talked about, I am on my way to scaling to seven figures. In my opinion. I am not in a rush. I’m doing it slowly and steadily so that I have a really solid business foundation and that I just am very intentional and I’m not like rushing it and forcing it from scarcity. I don’t want like quick money. I’m not like chasing the money. Money is just kind of the report card of how my business is doing and I can tell if I’m on the right track from it. So all of that is just to say that you can do this . Right? And I’m showing you this as an example of what is possible in a way that, I don’t know, depending on how you look at it, I think it’s kind of fast. Right?

 In year one I made $8K and last year I made $180 and this year I’ll do just under $300 and in a couple years I’ll be at seven figures. I think that’s fast. Other people are like, oh my God, five, seven years to seven figures. That’s a long time. It just depends how fast you want to do it. You can do it as fast as you want. It depends how much else you’re going to have going on in your life. Right? It’s like you can go to law school and become a lawyer in three years or you can go to med school and four years and then residency and another four and then a specialty like it’s up to you. Are you gonna live and breathe this 24/7 or are you going to do it as a side hustle? So the time that it takes, that’s also a question I get a lot is really up to you and how much time you’re willing to put into it.

But the good news is you don’t have to have some sort of special background. You don’t have to have a business degree, you don’t have to be super in to like investing and you know I love like when I in Chicago talked to these business guys who are super into like angel investing and funding and like the people who have opinions about business. I’m like, yeah, but where’s the money here that you’re actually making? I don’t care how much you raise, like where’s the profitability of this business? Right? You don’t need to know any of that. All that you need to do is get started. So I know that you feel uncertain about it and curious and probably a little bit skeptical. But the truth is we are all just making it up as entrepreneurs. We live in this like amazing time with the internet. Like sometimes I’m like, what? I just get up and go on this thing in front of me with a screen and I type words and it’s just mind blowing if you really think about it. So the barrier to entry to start an online business is so low and that is amazing. Like I just think it’s so incredible that we have this at our fingertips, but at the same time like it can feel very overwhelming because there’s so many options. You’re like, okay Natalie, I have a computer too. I don’t know what to do. But I really want you to understand that the more that I do in this space, the more of what one of my life coaches calls a beginner’s mind, the more I have a beginner’s mind and realize that everyone else is just making it up too.

It’s funny, as an, as a lawyer, I used to be such like a rule follower, right? And as an entrepreneur, I’m such a rule breaker because I realize all the rules were just made by entrepreneurs just like winging it. So I just question everything. I’m like, yeah, that’s the rule. But someone just like made that up. Right. Someone recently told me that they remember first meeting me and it was at the Life Coach Training and we all went into this room and we had name tags on the front of our seats and there are about I think 150 of us in this room. And I went up and found my name tag kind of like in the back. And y’all know me, I need to be front and center, like I have really bad vision and I’m just like, you know, I’m like that girl like Susan in the front row with her hand up. Okay. So I found my name tag in the back and I moved it and put it in the front and everyone was like, Oh my God, we can move our name tags? What can we move her name tags? Oh my God, she moved the name tag, I’m moving the name tag. And then all of a sudden everyone was moving name tags. Right. And it was just because I questioned like, I don’t know, my name is, there, I’m just going to move it right. I don’t, I don’t know. There’s no rhyme or reason. I’m just going to move it, right? So I’m just saying that, you know, I don’t think you need to break all of the rules all of the time. I just need think you need to question why you’re following certain rules and you know, is it a rule you really want to follow? And what comes with this is you looking at the world in a different way. You’ll kind of see that business is a relationship between you as the business owner and the marketplace.

And the people get confused when I say like go into the market and see what people are doing. That just means go and see what the humans are consuming and buying and what problems they have and what problems they want solved. That’s all business is, right? It’s like the business of medicine. People get hurt. So we need Western medicine and that’s the business of it. Or the education system. The business of education. We want people to be educated. So there’s an education system. We want to buy fancy clothes. So there’s the business of fancy fashion, right? So whatever kind of the humans have decided we want or we have desires for some more virtuous than others, that is kind of what’s in the marketplace. So whenever I am suggesting to new business owners how they should start a business, I always say like, come up with an idea that’s step one and then go test it. Go into the marketplace and see if it can make some money. Okay. And then when it doesn’t cause it for sure won’t tweak it and try again. Remember I said earlier, the best product doesn’t win the best marketing wins. So to figure out what the people want, I forget who said it, but it was like sell people what they want, give them what they need. So a lot of times you will be like, okay, well the market really needs this, but they don’t want it so they’re not going to buy it. So you sell them what they want and you give them what they need and you’re actually helping them more this way.

But for you as someone who’s like, I don’t know what to do, I want to start an online business. It honestly is probably coming from a very egotistical place, which is fine. That’s how, that’s how it was for me. It’s just something to notice because eventually it has to shift in order for you to actually make money because you don’t make money talking about yourself. You don’t make money making it all about you. You make money based on how much value you provide to the world. So I am so far from making it about me and my business and you might not realize that cause I’m branded as I share lots of personal stories, but they’re always from the perspective of showing a transformation that, so I want you to see that it’s possible for you to. It’s not like, you know, I’m not writing about, you know, where I just traveled to or what I ate for breakfast or like it’s not indulgent. And that’s the biggest mistake I see people making is like they’re very focused on what they want to do. Now. I do think that it’s useful to start with something that you want to do. Right?

I had this pain of student loan debt. So it was very natural for me to want to learn about it and then help people with money and learn about money. And now I love talking about money. Side note, we are doing money, money, mindset, all the money things in Grow You this month. So if you want to get coached by me about money before next year, you have to join by the end of this month. So Okay? That’s a side note. But if you are thinking about money for your business, which I’m sure you are, the income potential is unlimited, but it’s all based on how you over deliver value. So instead of thinking, what do I want to start a business about or how can I make money or is this possible for me or the market already has too many businesses or whatever kind of story you have in your head. I want you to think about some different questions. I want you to ask yourself, what could I offer to the world that they would pay for? Now at first your brain is probably gonna come back to you and say nothing, but that’s not true. I always like to think of like the first grade teacher. My best friend is a first grade teacher and she now does some work for me and it’s super fun. She edits all of my stuff. I just love her so much and I, she’s teaching people how to read. Okay? So that’s an example of like, you might think, okay, there’s nothing that I have to offer that people would pay for. But think about how much you know how to do that. People don’t know how to do yet, right? Like babies or kids or whatever. Like they don’t know how to ride a bike yet. They don’t know how to read yet. Maybe you know how to, sew people don’t know how to sew. Like there’s just a lot of things and you’re probably not realizing them because you’re so good at them already that you know how to do that you could teach people how to do that. They would pay you for. So instead of focusing on what you don’t know yet, I want you to focus on what you could offer to the world that you’ll pay for.

In the movie, Catch Me If You Can, with Leonardo DiCaprio, he plays Frank Abagnale who you know is this con artist. This movie’s based on a true story. If you haven’t seen it, it’s so good. But Abagnale reported that he worked as a sociology teaching assistant at Brigham Young University for a semester and he was finally caught for all of this fraud. They asked him how he was able to do this and he said that he just had to read one chapter ahead and I bring up this story because so often we think that we have to know everything in order to teach anything. And it’s just not true. There’s so much that you already know that you could be teaching people or helping people with. So what do you want to offer to the world that they would pay for? I know a lot of people come to me because they want to help people with money cause that’s kind of what I do. But they want to help people who don’t have any money and aren’t willing and able to pay, and that’s fine, but start a charity. You’re not starting a business that way. It’s not going to be profitable. So I don’t just want you to think about what you want to offer to the world, but what do you want to offer to the world that they’ll pay for?

Is there a problem that you could solve for people that they’ll pay for? Remember, keep it simple. Just start to look at the world. And I don’t mean like metaphorically, I mean like pay attention to people’s conversations. Like what are they complaining about? Who do you want to help and what kind of problems you want to solve for them. So just start to notice in conversations or in the media, what kind of problems people have that you could potentially solve. Is there a solution that you want to give people? Something that you know will add or bring value to other people’s lives? I’m telling you, if you start an online business with these questions in mind, you will be years ahead of everyone. Because what happens is we’re all in our heads about ourselves and our ego and how we want more time and we want to make money and we hate our jobs and we’re unfulfilled. So we want to start a business and it’s all about me, me, me, me.

And that’s fine at first because it gets you moving in the right direction, but it’s not enough to get you to six figure business, seven figure business, right? That’s why I’m successful. And other people are not. They kind of stay in this ego land where it’s all about them and you have to switch because people aren’t paying you for you. They are paying you for you to solve their problems. Okay? They love you and they want to buy from you because you’re special and amazing and you inspire them. But it’s really about them. It’s like the marketing saying, what’s in it for me? Everyone’s always thinking, what’s in it for me? So you always want to be solving people’s problems. That’s kind of where I want you to start in terms of how to start an online business and you can make it really, really successful really fast, much faster than I did. If you focus on helping people solve their problems in a way that you give them value and they give you value back in the form of money, okay, it’s just money is spiritual. It’s just a value exchange. You give one kind of value and they give you money back and you get to decide what to offer to the marketplace and then the marketplace is going to tell you whether it’s a quote unquote good idea.

And people always want to ask me about their business ideas and I love that. I love ya know, brainstorming and thinking about it. I love talking about business, but the truth is I’m just going to give you my opinion, right? I could be totally wrong and that’s true of any business coach or any, you know, business expert. They’re going to give you what their opinion is, but the truth is like what’s the market gonna do? What are the humans gonna to do? Are they going to buy it or not?

So like I said, entrepreneurs are just making it all up. We are coming up with ideas and then testing it and then seeing if it makes money, meaning seeing if the market wants it. If they don’t, then we tweak it. We’re like, okay, well they didn’t want this. We’re going to tweak it a little bit and try this or we’re going to try this. Right? It’s kind of the whole reason why you have to get your mindset right in business because you have to let go of that perfectionism and making it all about you and you have to just produce at such a high rate because you’re not gonna nail it the first time. You have to produce a hundred and you might get five potential winners. So this is where I want you to be thinking about how to start an online business instead of thinking about what you want, think about what you can give and how you can help people in exchange for money.

Now, so many people will get stuck in the how when they listen to this, they’ll really be thinking, well, I don’t know how. I don’t, you know, know how to start. I don’t know where to start. I don’t know how to do this. And really this is just your brain getting stuck in confusion. And really this is fear. It’s fear of failure. It’s putting fear of putting yourself out there. It’s fear of wasting time and wasting money and wasting energy. It’s all fear. And here’s the thing, not doing it, not starting an online business is failing ahead of time. Okay? Because if you start an online business and it fails, you’re literally in the same place that you were before. Except I think you’re in a better place. Even if you lose money or something like that. Even if you quote unquote waste time, it’s not wasting time, right?

Cause you’re learning, you’re failing forward, you’re trying something new and what determines what wasted time is ? You do. So how about you don’t decide that it was wasted time? How about you decide that it was time well spent learning about online business and okay, it didn’t work out. Let’s try again. You’re not going to know how and that’s okay. Right? You have me, I will teach you how, but guess what? It’s going to be different for everyone. I can give you the framework just like any other business coach. A good one can give you the framework. I.

love the example of getting married so most people can relate to this. Take a hundred people who are married, married, you know individuals and you could ask those 100 people how to get married. Okay? And guess what? You’re going to get a hundred different answers. It’s going to be some version of date. People decide, you know, one person that you want to marry and then get married. Everything else is just all the details of their story. This is just an example to show you that it’s all trial and error. Okay, some people will have gotten married after dating for 10 years. Other people after 10 months or 10 weeks. Every kind of marriage story is different. Every business story is different, right? But it’s some version of two strangers meet, they like each other, they love each other, they get married. Okay. That’s like there’s a framework for online business. Who do you want to serve? You know, how do you want to position yourself? What do you want to offer? Uh, making sure that all aligns and you know, over-delivering. Okay, it’s some version of that, right? But everything else figuring out the nitty gritty, you have to do it through trial and error.

And I want you to kind of shift your thinking from fear, you know, and worrying about the how to three different emotions that will serve you for the rest of your life, particularly with online business. And they are commitment, love and fun. Okay? I feel like I’m laughing at that because I feel like it’s so, um, counterintuitive. People are like, what? Where’s like grit and determination and, and all of that, right? You do need those things too, but I’m telling you, nothing will serve you more than feeling committed. Then feeling love and then feeling fun. I’m so serious about this because if you are fully committed, you will not get stuck in the how. I’m talking about being committed. Like this was your spouse. People who asked me about plan B or you can always follow back, fall back on your, you know, law or CFP or whatever.

I’m like, no, no, no. There’s no falling back. There’s falling forward. You have to be as committed to this as you would be if you were saying, I do. Right? Because here’s the thing you don’t say I do in your marriage and get married and think like, okay, well we got in a fight. I don’t know if this is gonna work out. I’m like, not so sure about this. You’re like, no, let’s talk about it. Let’s lean in. That’s all committed. You have to be to your business. I’m like, Oh my gosh, this problem. How am I going to solve this Facebook ads? I’m like, God, like I’m leaning into it. I’m committed. I’m never thinking this isn’t gonna work out. You have to be committed and if you’re committed, you move out of the not knowing how. Okay. You’re not worried about not knowing how you’re like, I don’t know how, but I’m just going to do it anyway cause I’m committed.

You want it so bad. You lean in. So committed is what I want you to feel. I also want you to feel love. I think by far love is the most underrated emotion that you need to experience and feel to have a successful online business. You must love your people. Do you know that I love you? I’m so serious. I love you so much. I think about you all the time. I want to help you feel better. I want to help you set and achieve impossible goals. I want to help you make money. I am so obsessed with you creating this life that you haven’t even dreamed big enough to have yet, and that I want to be the person to inspire you, to get it and to have all of it. I believe in you right now, even if you don’t, I mean that so deeply and I have so much love for you and that is why I am so successful.

I love you so much. I also love my business as a separate entity so much. I would work all day and night if I didn’t value other areas of my life so much. Right? I don’t worry. I, you know, I’m not in scarcity because I’m in love. Now, this doesn’t mean that everything is rainbows and daisies like this is some hard work of course, but it’s from abundance. If you want to have a successful business and you’re in doubt and you’re in worry, it’s totally normal. But if you decide to be committed and you decide that you’re gonna love your business from the very beginning, it will serve you so well. It’s kind of like saying, I want to have a baby and then having a baby and expecting the baby to take care of you right when it’s born, you have to take care of that baby and love that baby unconditionally for 18 years before it’s taken care of you.

Same thing for business. It’s like you start this business and you have to love it. You have to love your people. You have to give to it to grow it before it ever takes care of you. And just like I’ve heard people talk about having kids, it’s the most challenging but the most rewarding endeavor they’ve ever taken on in their life. Right? I wouldn’t trade my business for anything, for any amount of money. Same thing people say about their kids, right? It’s like so hard, but so amazing. And they wouldn’t trade it for anything. That’s how much in love with your business you have to be and committed.

And then lastly is to have fun. If you’re having fun now, you will continue to have fun and it will be fun. You’ll take it seriously from the place of this is important and you’re doing important work, but you’ll have this lightheartedness and you won’t, you know, beat yourself up because you’ll remember that this is just for fun. It’s all for fun. It’s not better over there. It’s really not. I know that you’re thinking, okay Natalie, but it is better over there. No, it’s just a different flavor of hard, right? My days are full of ups and downs our different seasons are full of ups and downs and I know that and I expect that. And that’s why I just have fun with it because I have a human brain and I know that the seven figure version of me also has a human brain and I know that you have a human brain and Oprah has a human brain and the person on death row has a human brain and Kate Middleton who I idolizes has a human brain, right? And so everyone with a human brain has the human experience, which means they have contrast, right? Short of being some sort of sociopath or psychopath, everyone is experiencing these negative emotions and when you really understand that, you’re like, okay, you let go of the idea that it’s better over there and you decide to get control of your mindset and your feelings right now. And then you decide to have fun with it, knowing that it’s gonna be hard, but you’re signing up for it. You’re signing up for a different experience of life. It’s like single people problems versus getting married. You just trade them in for married people problems and then you know, having kids, it’s just a different flavor of problems. It’s the same thing with working at a full time job or having an online business. It’s just a different flavor of problems. So why not have fun right now in it the very beginning and not indulge in confusion or the not knowing how and say, listen, I am committed to this. I’m gonna love the people I’m serving. I’m going to figure out what they want and help them and I am going to love my business and I’m gonna have fun with it knowing that there’s going to be lots of lots of failure along the way.

That’s how I approach it now and I’m telling you, it just serves me so well and it will serve you so well. And all of this I want you to kind of see through the lens of deciding for yourself if you want to start an online business and if you want to grow the online business that maybe you already have and you know how to start an online business is really up to you. It’s about deciding. So there’s no one going to be telling you yes or no. There’s no one who can say for sure that your business will be a success or it won’t. That’s up for you to decide with certainty. I’ll coach people in Grow You about online business and I just coached someone recently about Pinterest and she was like, well, I just think I’m late to the game and Pinterest isn’t working, and it was all about blaming the external circumstances for her results and it’s like, no, no, no.

There are humans in the world and they’re all spending tons of money. If they’re not giving you their money, it means that there’s something wrong with how you are running your business. This has nothing to do with Pinterest. Pinterest is just one way, one piece of technology to use, and if it’s not where, I always say when people say it’s not working, you flip it around and say, I’m not working. You have to decide to try something different because there’s no one who’s going to say, Oh, for sure, this is the way. Now you’ll take a class and you’ll get new ideas and you’ll implement it and you’ll make it your own. But you have to have that kind of, that bandwidth, that mental strength to keep trying different ways without blaming it on your circumstances because there is no parent or teacher to do it for you.

Right? No one knows. Like we’re all just making it up and it’s okay to be scared and for things not to work, but you have to be able to overcome that and say, okay, now what? When you think that you’ve tried everything you haven’t, it’s like what’s next? So you know, the biggest mistakes that I see from people with online business is that they’re just not doing it. They’re having this idea for so long about maybe doing it or wanting to do it or wanting more fulfillment, and then they just never start. It’s just a huge mistake because even if you fail, you’re not wasting time. You just learned that that way didn’t work and you can try different way. Or you might learn that you just don’t want to do it.

I love one of my life coaches. She decided that she wanted to be a fitness instructor, so she did that for six months and she decided, Oh no, this isn’t for me. I don’t want to do this with my life. She never once said that was wasted time. She decided that that time was time well spent so she could figure out how she wanted to set up her future. She tried something that wasn’t for her. She tried something else. The next thing she tried was life coaching. That is for her now. She has a multi seven figure business and she has four kids. Okay. I’m of course talking about the wonderful, loving, amazing Jody Moore. She’s amazing. I love her coaching. I’m in her program, highly recommended. Okay. She coaches Mormon moms, but my point here is that when you don’t start, you continue to create more of the past without moving forward and you only get one life and you really, really are giving up so much of your future by not starting.

And then the next mistake that I see people making is that they don’t evaluate their success based on money. Right? They get really confused like, like, what’s your goal? Like, well, I, I really want to make money online. I really want to make six figures. I really want to make seven figures. I’m like, okay, how’s your business doing? And then they start talking about their email list and their traffic and like all of these other things like, okay, how’s your business is doing with money? Are you making money? That is how you measure profitability and success in your business. Everything else flows from that. Are you starting a charity? Are you starting a hobby? Are you starting a business? People have these like weird money beliefs and it really gets in the way of online business. I’m like, money isn’t that bad. Money’s amazing, right? You can love the children and love food and love your husband and love money. There’s not like a shortage of love and that you can’t love money.

It’s so weird. We do this to ourselves. Get money coaching. I’m telling y’all, it’s really, really important because you’ll sabotage yourself and your business, so always measure your success based on money. It’s like if your money isn’t growing in your business, then there’s a problem and there’s no reason to beat yourself up about it, but there’s like a problem in your business and you need to figure out what it is so you can solve it. So that’s the second problem I see.

And the third problem is I already touched on is it’s like the ego. It’s focusing on you and what you want and how you want to, you know, run your life and your business and what you want from your business instead of focusing on how you can give and focusing on who you’re serving and your niche, right? It’s the total opposite of ego. It’s giving and that kind of gets into the details of online business and you should really take Online Business For Her once it’s out. If you really want to learn business and in a successful way with a strong business foundation, but don’t make those mistakes, okay, I want you to start, I want you to evaluate your success on money profitability. And I want you to focus on serving and giving value instead of focusing on yourself.

I want to give you a few examples of successful online businesses because people will say, well, Oh, you can only make money if you’re selling how to make money. And I’m like, no, no, we’re so confused. Go look at the marketplace, go look at businesses. There are businesses everywhere, online making butt tons of money. Okay, so just want to give you a list and I just came up with these in like five minutes literally of people with seven figure businesses who I personally know that are making money and this is the type of business.

So I know someone who has a seven figure business. I’m serving people in her business for weight loss, for busy, busy physicians. Her whole business is about weight loss for busy physicians. She is a physician herself, seven figure business. I know someone who is running a seven figure business losing the last 10 pounds. Okay? I know her business is multi six figure and I know it’s on the way to seven. I’m not sure if it’s there yet, but her whole business is helping people lose the last 10 pounds. Okay. I know someone who is multi seven figures who is helping people lose a hundred pounds. That’s her niche. She helps people lose a hundred pounds online business. I already mentioned the life coach Jody Moore who helps Mormon moms. Multi seven figure business.

I know another online business that is all mindset and a rewiring your brain successful seven figure business. I do know many online businesses that are digital marketing and make money blogging and make money online. Also seven figure businesses. I know people who teach through goal living and it’s kind of harder this way cause you want to make sure people are willing and able to buy, but people who do it in this way typically teach online business even though they position it in a on the front end as being, you know, money and frugal living. I know a lot of mommy, you know, bloggers or mom websites that focus on home life or you know, working from home. But it’s kind of positioned through the angle and the lens of moms and working moms, multi seven figure businesses. I know a lot of people who quote unquote, you know, have online businesses, but they actually are authors and speakers, right? So I love the saying, you don’t make money selling a book. You make money having a book, okay, so they’re getting speaking gigs and they have a book, right? And they’re selling online courses.

And I say all of these examples, and I just gave you the general category instead of listing the business name, because I don’t want you to get obsessed with who they are and that they’re so original that you can’t do it. This is just a way for you to see that there are so many different niches out there and ways for you to serve the world and grow your business up to seven figures or six figures or whatever you want. There are so many tactics. Do not get stuck in the how, all right? I want you to be committed and have love and have a lot of fun. You can absolutely create a business that you are passionate about and be super fulfilled doing it and create, you know, a life bigger. And you know more different than you ever imagined.
