It is easier than ever to make money from home. In the long lost years of pre-internet, you actually had to go out of your house, make cold calls, and mail resumes. Weird, I know.
Fortunately for us, we live in a world with the internet. And the internet is not just a place to read the latest gossip on social media – you can actually make money from home, using the internet (amazing, I know).
1. Start a blog
Blogging is a great way to make money online! I make over $2,000 / month from blogging.
I can teach you how to start a blog through my step by step guide.
The best part about blogging is that you can do it from anywhere and the income potential is unlimited.

2. Freelance write for online sites
Freelancing writing means you get paid to write for online sites (blogs, websites, major media sites, etc.). I considered freelance writing “blogging” when I first started making money online, but really freelance writing is its own thing.
As a freelance writer, you are paid to write. I walk you through how to become a freelance writer in this post. I know people who have landed gigs for $350 / post just from following my instructions in this post. Anyone can do it.
Freelance writing is amazing because you can set your own schedule, your own rates, and really increase your income quickly.
3. Become a Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant (aka VA) is someone who does administrative tasks for a person or company from home (instead of going into an office). It’s an excellent way to make money from home. Even more than administrative tasks, a VA can do other work, like website help, for example.
To become a VA, take the course Your Way To VA by Laura Pennington (use the code NATALIEB to get 20% off). She teaches you exactly how to go from knowing nothing about being a VA to running a successful business as a VA. I highly recommend it!
4. Start a photography business
A photography business is a great way to work from home – the one caveat being that you need to be a good photographer (or at least want to learn how to become one). If you’re not, you can always start! But the idea of including this on my list is that it’s a really great way to work from home and create your own financial freedom.
I recommend Cole’s Classroom for getting started with photography. I heard Cole on a Smart Passive Income podcast episode and he’s the only site that I know of that teaches photographers how to create a photography business and has the respect and blessing of Pat Flynn!
Now, more than ever, there are websites that you can sell your photos to (think about all the online sites that need images). You can be the person contributing to the endless number of people who need images.
If you are a stay at home parent, or you are interested in started a business from home, a photography business is definitely a legitimate option. As a bonus, you’ll learn an awesome skill along the way.
5. Sell Your Stuff
When Dave Ramsey helps people get out of debt, one of the phrases he always says is “sell so much stuff that your kids think they’re next.” This is how you can make money from home – sell your stuff!
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that people don’t want to pay for what you have. Trust me, I am a Craiglist pro! I sell stuff allll the time on Craigslist and people buy the most random things that you wouldn’t think they’d ever pay money for.
With online platforms, it’s easier than ever to sell your things – no garage sale needed.
6. Tutor, babysit, housesit, pet sit
Consider doing any service that you can offer from your home – this includes tutoring students, babysitting, house sitting, or pet sitting. You really don’t need much experience for any of these services and you can make a lot of money doing it.
For example, I used SitterCity.com to get babysitting gigs when I used to babysit a lot. Research tutoring, babysitting, house sitting, and pet sitting in your area. You may be surprised at how easily you can get these gigs online.
7. Use Swagbucks
Swagbucks is a website where you can earn cash or gift cards by doing different tasks.
Examples include 1) using their search engine (yes, you can actually earn cash just from using swagbucks.com), 2) answering polls and taking surveys, 3) doing small tasks, and 4) playing games.
There’s really no downside to using Swagbucks. It’s free and you can earn money from using it. I’m a huge fan!
8. Sell a product online
You can make money from home by selling a product online. If you’re not sure what to sell or think that you wouldn’t know what to sell, all you have to do is get a little creative!
You can sell 1) a digital product (like an ebook or online course) or 2) a physical product from an online store (like jewelry or something else DIY on Etsy). Creating a digital product is a great way to make money online because you can continue to earn money from the product sales long after you’ve created it.
My friend Michelle wrote a great post about How To Work From Home Selling On Amazon FBA.
Physical products take more work over time, but it may be easier for you if you already know how to make something crafty. You can learn how to sell on Etsy from Craftsy, including the set up and business planning – read how one 19-year-old is paying for college by selling jewelry on Etsy (and avoid these Etsy mistakes)!
The opportunities here are endless for selling products online.
The Bottom Line
When it comes to making money from home, it’s a good idea to read and research ideas so you can decide what’s the best fit for you – I never knew I could make money writing and blogging and that it would ultimately give me the freedom to repay my student loans. So, it pays (literally) to do research first.
