Every good blogger knows that the resources and tools you use matter. Here’s what I personally recommend using for your blog.
If you are learning how to start a blog, then you need to signup for a hosting plan, and for a new blogger, I recommend starting with Bluehost for your host. Bluehost is one of the most popular blog-hosting companies, and if you sign up through my link, you can get your hosting for as little as $3.95 / month – woot!
2. iMark Interactive
iMark Interactive is the only company I trust to help me with my website (whether it’s fixing WordPress problems on my site, transferring sites, or setting up a new blog). This is the best company I know of to work on websites. And if you are a blogger, you will need someone like Grayson Bell, the man behind iMark. He’s amazing!
3. Ultimate Guide to Starting an Online Business
The Ultimate Guide to Starting an Online Business is a guide that teaches you how to escape the 9-to-5 and start a business that pays you to live the life you want. Work from anywhere, make your own hours, and get paid even as you spend time with friends and family.
4. Planoly (Instagram Scheduler)
Planoly is an Instagram app that changed my life. It helped me completely rebrand to a cohesive feed, with my followers now growing exponentially. Planoly allows you to pre-schedule your posts and move them around so you can see what your feed will look like in advance. I don’t know of another tool to help you grow your Instagram following more effeftively than Planoly.
5. Elite Blog Academy
Elite Blog Academy is the course that I took in 2016, which resulted in my tripling my blog income. I think it’s the best course out there for learning how to blog. It gives you a complete framework for creating your blog and shows you how to monetize it. You can only get the course in February every year, but you can join the waitlist and download a free workbook until the course opens. It’s definitely worth every penny. It completely changed my life!
6. Blog Yourself Rich Workbook
Blog Yourself Rich is a workbook that teaches you exactly how to turn your blog into a successfull, full-time gig. The author, Lauren, is a full-time blogger herself, so you will learn from someone who actually does this for a living. She’ll even send you the first few pages for free because she believes in the workbook so much. It’s amazing and you will have a successful blog by following her steps.
7. How I Made $40k My First Year of Blogging
How I Made $40k My First Year of Blogging is by Chelsea Lords from Chelsea’s Messy Apron. In her first year of blogging, Chelsea made $40k!!! She spells out exactly how she did it in this ebook. I highly recommend reading this book if you want to learn how to turn your blog into a successful, money-making website from the start.
8. ConvertKit (Email Marketing)
If you plan on monetizing your blog at all, you need to collect email addresses from day one. And even if you’re not monetizing, everything is still built around your email list. So, you need to decide which company to use. I recommend ConvertKit. This company has taken over the email marketing for bloggers in the last couple years. Their success is incredible (even Pat Flynn uses ConvertKit!). And it’s all for good reason — they do a really good job. I am completely satisfied with ConvertKit.
9. How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul
How to Blog for Profit Without Selling Your Soul by Ruth Soukup is AMAZING. I read it and increased my pageviews exponentially (like from 150/day to 1000+/day). You’ll learn how to maximize Pinterest, treat your blog like a business, and keep your integrity while you do it. I highly recommend this book!
10. Your Way To VA (Virtual Assistant Course)
You can make money with blogging by doing tasks for other bloggers as a virtual assitant (VA). You can learn how to become a VA in the course Your Way To VA, by Laura Pennington (use the code NATALIEB to get 20% off). She teaches you exactly how to go from knowing nothing about being a VA to running a successful business as a VA. I highly recommend it!
11. Grammarly (Writing Tool)
Grammarly is a writing tool that checks your grammar whenever you’re writing. It shows you when you’ve made spelling and grammatical errors. It shows up in all your writing on your computer, including on your blog, in your Word documents, and in your Notepad. Grammarly is a tool that helps you write better without having to think as much.
12. Evernote (Planning Tool)
Evernote is the organization tool of the decade. It will help you organize all of your stuff — everything from blog notes, to schedules, to personal items, etc. If you’re not sure where to get started, I suggest reading Evernote Essentials by Brett Kelly to help you learn the Evernote ropes. It’s worth it.
13. The Ultimate Guide to Digital Marketing
The Ultimate Guide to Digital Marketing is a guide that walks you through how to grow your business. You learn how to get more clients, more readers, and make more money from your online business. It’s by Ramit Sethi, who is the guru of online marketing.
14. Pinterest Scheduler
I have used Tailwind before, but recently I switched back to Board Booster. I like Board Booster because you can schedule pins without having to manually reschedule them (like you do with Tailwind). Pinterest has taken my pageviews from 100/day to over 5,000/day. My blog would be nothing without it!
15. Facebook Groups
Through my own personal experience, Facebook groups have been critical to my traffic growth. I’m a part of several groups and even created my own called #SocialHack for bloggers to connect and help each other grow their blogs. I highly recommend joining Facebook groups that align with your vision (mine should do that if you’re interested in growing your social media followers).
16. Email lists
Join email lists and subscribe to bloggers who you want to learn how to blog from. It’s the best way to have direct access to people who inspire you and who you want to be like.
